G305 or G502 LIGHTSPEED: compare the controls and power system

Choose between two named LIGHTSPEED mice using actual programmable controls, body dimensions and battery systems; manufacturer specifications are not our latency or comfort tests.

Choose the controls and power arrangement you need

Choose G305 when its six programmable buttons, smaller documented body and one-AA-battery arrangement suit the games and equipment you use. Choose G502 LIGHTSPEED when you specifically want its eleven programmable buttons, hyper-fast scroll wheel or optional weight adjustment. These are two named wireless products, not a claim that every G502 variant is wireless or that more controls make every player more effective.

Logitech lists G305 at 116.6 mm long and 62.1 mm wide, versus 131.2 mm and 75.2 mm for G502 LIGHTSPEED. Those dimensions establish different physical arrangements; they do not establish a comfortable grip for your hand. The actual G305 photograph identifies the body, while the following table uses manufacturer specifications rather than measurements taken for this guide.

A button count is useful only when the commands fit

List the commands you actually want available without moving to the keyboard. Then check whether the button positions and supported mappings work in the intended game or application. Logitech documents G HUB for customization. A programmable-button count is not a promise that every game accepts every macro, that software can be installed on a managed computer or that a particular mapping follows a competition's rules.

G502 LIGHTSPEED also offers a hyper-fast wheel and up to 16 g of optional extra weights. Those are meaningful reasons to shortlist it when you want those specific controls. They are not evidence that its quoted base weight is the same as a configuration with the additional weights fitted. Try the physical arrangement where possible; we have not tested click feel, grip or long-session comfort.

Keep the full G502 name with its battery claims

G305 uses one AA battery. G502 LIGHTSPEED instead has a rechargeable LiPo battery. Logitech quotes up to 250 hours for G305 and, for G502 LIGHTSPEED, up to 48 hours with default lighting or 60 hours without lighting. These are manufacturer claims with different stated conditions, not matched tests that justify a battery-life multiplier or a guaranteed number of your gaming sessions.

The G502 photograph on this page is explicitly the wired G502 HERO, not G502 LIGHTSPEED. It illustrates why the complete model name matters before applying a power specification to a familiar-looking body. Do not assign the wireless model's charging routine, receiver or battery claim to that wired product. Confirm the exact model and included receiver in the actual US seller bundle.

Logitech’s G305 technical record separates two battery claims: up to 250 hours of continuous gaming in Performance mode, and up to nine months of standard usage in Endurance mode. Nine months is not a continuous-gaming duration and should not be set beside the G502 LIGHTSPEED hour figures as if the workloads matched. Keep the mode and usage condition with the number.

The same record lists 75 g without a battery and 99 g with one AA battery. The 99 g entry in this comparison therefore includes the AA cell; the bare-mouse figure describes a different configuration. The support record identifies mouse model M-R0071, with its label inside the battery compartment. Check that identity rather than transferring another G305 edition’s record to a similar shell.

This comparison uses the original G305 and original G502 LIGHTSPEED names. The current US range also lists G305 X, G305 X SUPERLIGHT and G502 X products. An added X or SUPERLIGHT is part of a different product name, not an interchangeable colour option for the specifications here. Match the full name and the actual model identifier before applying a button count, battery claim or charging instruction.

For the original G502 LIGHTSPEED, Logitech support identifies mouse model MR0076 on the label inside the weight compartment and receiver model CU0008 on the receiver. Its 114 g entry is the mouse-only reference; the separately supplied four 2 g and two 4 g weights can add up to 16 g. The box list also includes a charging/data cable and receiver extension adapter. Check those exact components when comparing a used, replacement or retailer-specific package; a familiar G502 shell is not enough to identify the wireless electronics.

No photograph of the original G502 LIGHTSPEED was obtained for this guide. The wired G502 HERO image is a direct example of the mistaken-model purchase branch: a similar family name and body do not establish the wireless receiver, rechargeable battery or power specification. The G305 and PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 photographs identify their separately named models; the comparison specifications come from the cited manufacturer records.

Equal report-rate labels do not prove equal latency

Both named wireless references list a 1000 Hz report rate. That figure describes a reporting specification; it is not our measured end-to-end latency in your computer and game. Likewise, G305's listed tracking range reaches 12,000 DPI while the G502 LIGHTSPEED reference reaches 25,600 DPI. A larger maximum is not proof that an ordinary sensitivity setting produces better aim or a better purchase.

Keep the receiver, host USB connection and required software in the comparison. A Logitech logo does not make a Unifying or Logi Bolt receiver interchangeable with a gaming receiver. Use the manufacturer's receiver support for the exact model instead of ordering a visually similar dongle. We have not tested radio interference, a hub arrangement or your particular operating-system configuration.

Consider a third model only for a specific unmet requirement

PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 is a real alternative when a different weight and control arrangement is the requirement: its current manufacturer specification lists 60 g and five buttons, with USB-C charging. The photographed display sample identifies that separate product. It is not a G305 or a G502 and does not establish its current firmware, battery endurance or performance from appearance alone.

Choose the model whose supported controls, shape and power routine fit the requirement, then verify the actual receiver and package contents. A smaller button count or a lighter quoted weight can be preferable for one arrangement and unsuitable for another. No current US price, stock, delivery or tested value winner is claimed here; compare complete offers only after the named hardware and software requirements are satisfied.
