K3 Version 2 or K2 Version 2: choose the complete switch system
Compare K3 Version 2 low-profile mechanical and optical options with the regular-height K2 Version 2 reference, keeping hot-swap, keycaps and exact generation separate.
Updated:

Choose the exact K3 switch option before buying parts
The cited K3 Version 2 page offers Low Profile Gateron Mechanical and Low Profile Keychron Optical options. The optical option is explicitly labelled hot-swappable. These are separate choices within the named keyboard reference, not permission to interchange mechanical and optical switches. K2 Version 2 is the regular-height mechanical reference in this comparison. Start with the complete keyboard version and selected switch system before choosing a replacement switch or keycap set.
This system-choice guide uses manufacturer pages captured on October 30, 2026. No original K3 Version 2 or K2 Version 2 photograph was obtained. The real photographs show an older K1 assembly, a Varmilo floating-case board and a K5 SE with its own parts. They make physical identification tasks visible; current specifications and swap conditions come from the cited pages. No parts were fitted or tested here.
Low profile and hot-swappable answer different questions
Low profile describes a height-related product category; hot-swappable describes supported replacement behaviour for a particular board and socket. A low board is not automatically hot-swappable, and a hot-swappable board is not automatically compatible with every low-profile switch. Keep the K3 optical label attached to that option. We do not apply it indiscriminately to the separately listed Gateron mechanical version or an unidentified older unit.
The K2 reference likewise needs its exact configuration and matching documentation. Current product links are not an inventory of features that every older K2 acquired. A claim about one switch option cannot establish the socket or soldering arrangement inside a different revision. The table describes the named system boundary rather than approving a universal drop-in replacement.

A low case is not the same as a low-profile switch
The Varmilo photograph shows a real floating-keys arrangement with switch housings visible above a low case edge. Its source description uses low-profile for the case. That does not identify its internal system as the K3 platform. Read what the adjective modifies: case, body, keycap or switch. Treating all four as interchangeable descriptions can lead to buying a part with a plausible outline but an unchecked interface.
The older K1 Version 2 photograph provides another physical example. Removed keycaps expose the blue WM-brand low-profile switches identified by its source. Their visible geometry is not a K3 optical or Gateron compatibility certificate. A familiar colour or partly similar stem does not establish detection method, supported socket or stabilizer arrangement. Use the exact board and replacement-part documentation instead of selecting by photograph alone.

Check the whole keycap and accessory arrangement
A keycap purchase needs more than the word mechanical. Identify supported stem interface, row profile, key widths, stabilizer positions and physical layout. K3 and K2 percentage labels do not establish that complete keycap sets are interchangeable. A cap that seems to attach to one small key is not a fit test for the space bar, Enter, Shift or an entire different layout. No current replacement set is approved by these photographs.
The K5 SE photograph shows a real labelled box, keyboard, separate caps and puller together. Its visible K5 SE identity is why it must not be treated as a K3 package photograph. Retain the model identifier and specific accessory description with a quotation. A photographed puller or spare cap does not prove switch hot-swap support, what another box contains or a suitable removal procedure for your own board.

Keep the manufacturer height claim within its scope
Keychron describes the K3 low-profile switch as 40% slimmer than conventional switches. That is a manufacturer comparison with a generic baseline, not our measurement of a particular K2 switch. It does not mean the complete K3 keyboard is 40% lower than every K2 configuration, or that case, caps and feet contribute the same percentage. Check complete selected-variant dimensions when actual desk or carrying clearance is the requirement.
A thinner assembly also does not establish typing comfort, sound level, actuation force or end-to-end input latency. We have not performed a matched typing, acoustic or latency test. Choose documented switch behaviour and a system you can maintain, then assess personal fit separately. The exposed K1 assembly and Varmilo case are physical construction examples, not substitutes for a current K3/K2 measurement or handling trial.
Keep generation, option and complete offer together
The K3 page explicitly identifies Version 2 while also promoting newer K3 generations. Do not import a Version 3 banner's connectivity or keycap claims into the Version 2 order. The K2 URL cited here likewise identifies Version 2; Pro, Max, HE and other references need their own evidence. A family name shared across listings cannot approve a component or establish the contents of a used or modified unit.
Before ordering, record the exact board version, mechanical or optical option, supported replacement family, full keycap layout and included accessories. Confirm the chosen variant's current availability, price, delivery and return conditions with the actual seller; no live checkout total or stock guarantee was verified here. K3 is the low-profile candidate and K2 the regular-height candidate, but the outcome should be a complete compatible system rather than a promise that loose parts can be exchanged between them.
